Guiding principles

We are a family business dedicated to real values: Reliability and honesty are not just buzzwords, they are the cornerstones of our actions.

Our livelihood comes exclusively from our customers, who freely and willingly buy from or sell something to us. We offer extremely wide-ranging expertise, a huge array of products, as well as valuable trade contacts.

We honor the spoken word or a handshake. At the same time, we want to preserve the freedom to reject a deal. A good deal requires a good gut-feeling. Before and after a transaction. We seek and value such business and relationships.

We pay all our bills within 48 hours, because we only buy what we can afford. So that we can continue to exist in the future. We are not interested in short-term success, we appreciate sustainable, long-term successes.

We would like to thank all our customers for the trust they have placed in us. It is only thanks to them that we have had the great freedom to be able to realise our vocation for almost 40 years.

Come and visit us, you are very welcome!

Adrian, Lukas, Reni and Johannes Müller

History and Activities

Back in the early eighties, the passionate collector Johannes Müller began trading old postcards. From an early age, he realised that sustainable business success is based on long-term activities that serve the customer. In 1985, he organised the CARTOPHILA 85 at the Kursaal convention centre in Bern, an exhibition and stock exchange with over 1,000 visitors.

With the takeover of the long-established stamp shop Kilchherr, he started his stamp trade on the 1st floor of 38 Neuengasse in Bern.

Just four years later, he was allowed to take over the shop of the Droz jewellery store – his wife Reni recognised an opportunity and successfully launched another business field: Jewellery with history is her speciality, and her passion and expertise has led her to great success to this day. Since the start of this business venture, Reni Müller has been making a significant contribution to the success of our family business with valuable background work and effort and, of course, as the heart and soul of the company.

In addition to the retail business, the numerous, regular foreign trade fair participations in Europe, the US and Hong Kong has led to valuable business contacts all over the world and wonderful friendships which continue to this day.

A strong interest in history, society and the monetary economy led Johannes Müller to the Austrian School of National Economics. The knowledge he gained about the importance of the monetary system to the prosperity of a society motivated him to found a small publishing house, which publishes books and produces video series.

Thoughts about the freedom of the individual inevitably led to gold and silver: the founding of the precious metal trading company ECHTGELD AG in 2010 was a consequence of these very ideas.

Two years later, OrSuisse AG was founded together with two partners. A new warehouse concept outside the banking system was developed as a result. Gold and silver can be easily transported, transferred and deposited by the owner as collateral with the OrSuisse warehouse receipt.

In the same year, the largest Internet project to date was launched after a long period of preparation: www.schweizergeld.ch:

It is the first free online catalogue for Swiss coins and banknotes – with over 2 million visitors annually!

The site is constantly being expanded with specialist areas and illustrated with thousands of images. In 2018, for example, all Liechtenstein coins from 1862 onwards were catalogued.

In 2014, the website www.1.august.ch was brought online; this is a project that gathers collectible items relating to the Swiss National Day and continually supplements them. Commercially it has not proven a success, but the largely positive feedback from enthusiastic collectors gives us the necessary motivation for further projects.

In 2016, we took the plunge with a six-month complete renovation of our store:

Massive structural protection measures against robberies or burglary attempts, combined with the latest high-quality alarm and monitoring technology have been worthwhile: thanks to the shop furnishings wonderfully designed by the Schreiner König joinery, we are today spoiled with a shop ambience in which not only our customers, but also we ourselves feel very comfortable.

Our eldest son, Adrian C. Müller, fully entered the family business in 2014 and is today Managing Director of the precious metal trading company ECHTGELD AG. Both Johannes Müller & Söhne AG and ECHTGELD AG are subordinate to the self-regulatory organisation (SRO) Polyreg and thus implement the legal standards against money laundering.

Our second son Lukas J. Müller decided in 2016 to participate fully in the family business. His specialities are wristwatches and pocket watches, coins, medals as well as high-quality jewellery and gemstones.

Since 2022, he has taken over the leadership of our new, ambitious Internet project. In cooperation with a highly specialised IT company, the needs were defined and a corresponding database was designed. We are very lucky when it comes to our employees: all employees are highly motivated and collect, scan and photograph thousands of documents every month. The project is expected to go online in 2027, but at the latest in 2028. The prevailing anticipation is hugely motivating.
